Join us for a long weekend where together we will traverse one of life’s great challenges with the support and guidance of Jewish ritual, wisdom, and community.

We offer:

immersive Jewish healing, community building, and self-discovery

in the beauty of the Pocono Mountains.

Camp Havaya is proud to partner with Divorce & Discovery: New Visions for Jewish Healing to offer this opportunity for healing and renewal.

Founded in 2022, Divorce & Discovery seeks to create a sea change in the contemporary Jewish community’s ability to respond to divorce with compassion as well as spiritual and ritual support. With critical funding from the Covenant Foundation, Divorce & Discovery hosts 4-day retreats around the country, monthly online support groups, and provides resources for spiritual leaders to promote Jewish ritual practices for those hurting or healing from divorce.

At Camp Havaya, we believe that belonging is the “indescribable feeling of being welcome.” It’s that moment of total comfort, warmth, and love – when we see one another, and are seen, for exactly who we are. This is the water we strive to swim in; we aim for it to be integral and infused into all we do. We are committed to representation and to celebrating lived experience, and we recognize the powerful and organic ways these can bring more dignity, justice, and joy to our work and our world.

Located on 120 acres of beautifully wooded land in the Poconos Mountains of Pennsylvania, Camp Havaya has a kosher kitchen, heated six-lane swimming pool, private pond, indoor/outdoor theater, multiple athletic fields and courts, high and low ropes courses, and streams and hiking trails throughout the property.

The Divorce & Discovery Retreat costs $720 per person.

This covers all expenses of a four-day/three-night retreat, including professional, expert-led programming; access to a therapist,  certified divorce coach, or spiritual companionship with a rabbi; comfortable lodging in shared bunks; delicious and bountiful meals, snacks, and coffee service; and more. Financial aid is available.

FAQs

Do I have to be divorced to attend?

Divorce & Discovery retreats support people who feel broken and in pain following a separation from a close romantic partner. You do not need to have been married to attend, nor do you need to have officially divorced. If you aren’t sure if the program is right for you, email your questions to Rabbi Deborah Newbrun at deborah@divorceanddiscovery.org.

Do I have to be Jewish to attend?

While you don’t have to be Jewish to attend, anyone who joins should have an open mind and an interest in Judaism. A major focus of the retreat will be engaging in Jewish rituals and practices as a way to process and heal from divorce. We expect all types of Jews and Jew adjacent folks to attend.

If I am in the process of separating/getting a divorce, can I still join?

If you have made the final decision to no longer be with your life partner, and want to experience healing through Jewish ritual, then this is the right program for you. If you’re not sure, please contact Rabbi Deborah Newbrun at deborah@divorceanddiscovery.org — she will be happy to discuss it with you.

If I divorced many years ago, can I still attend?

The pain and suffering caused by divorce can stay with us for a very long time. Divorce & Discovery programs will still have much value for you, no matter how many years have passed since your divorce.

If I was in an LGBTQ+ relationship, will I be the only one with that identity?

We can’t be sure who will sign up, but many of our leaders — both at Camp Havaya and Divorce & Discovery — identify as LGBTQ+ and we are committed to inclusion and celebration of all people. We anticipate having participants with a variety of gender, sexual, and other identities. All are welcome!
